Chris Ryder – Caricaturist

Chris is a leading UK caricature artist and cartoonist with over fifteen years’ experience of drawing caricatures at weddings, parties, and corporate events. She is the in-house caricature artist for Liverpool Football Club and has worked with them for over a decade now, drawing in the lounges at every home game.

Prior to being a caricature artist, Chris was a primary school and special needs teacher and several years ago started combining the two passions in her life (caricatures and teaching) by going back into schools to do caricature workshops. Her mission is ‘to inspire the caricature artists of the future!’ The workshops were a great hit and young people loved them. Children who didn’t think they could draw became more confident and started their own portfolios.

If you have children who love to draw then book them into the caricature sessions run by Chris. Workshops are aimed at children who are seven and over.

Jane Rylands – Maker

I have been a maker, mostly with textiles, all my life. I love to be able to share this skill to encourage others to make, to tell stories together.

We have been making banners with members of our church community, especially our young people, for about 25 years. Some mark a particular event but most aim to highlight a particular bible verse or aspect of our faith. We change them throughout the year and love adding to our collection. For this first Caldecott festival we are taking inspiration from the book which won the first Randolph Caldecott Medal in 1938, ‘Animals of the Bible’, illustrated by Dorothy Lathrop.
